Proverbs 2:1-7 (New Living Translation)
BENEFITS OF WISDOM
1 My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands.
2 Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
3 Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.
4 Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.
5 Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
Reading
is one of the most essential habits of every leader. An avid reader
worth emulating was Paul. His books and parchments were obviously were
very important to him (2 Timothy 4:13).
Read
for intellectual growth. You will develop your mind greatly as you
read. Read also for spiritual growth. As you read, your spirit is
affected greatly by the written Word of God. You must have communion
with other great leaders through their books. Read to develop a
preaching and teaching style. You will pick up some tips as you read
from the messages of great men. Read to improve your language. The best
way to learn the English language is to read English books. Read so that
you will be in the top twenty percent of society. The top twenty
percent of every society buys books. Join the top twenty percent and be a
winner and a leader.
Daniel
Webster (1782-1852), a famous states man and prominent lawyer once
said, "If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in
this country and the people do not become religious, I do not know what
is to become of us as a nation. And the thought is one to cause solemn reflection on the part of every patriot and Christian. If the truth be
not diffused, error will be; if God and His Word are not known and
received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy; if the
evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of corrupt and
licentious literature will."
